Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operated by El Al offers 282 seats of three classes.

Seat map of the of Boeing 787-9 (789)

First 8 rows of seats are offered to passengers of business first class. The seats in these rows have 1-2-1 configuration. These are 32 open suites that have 180 degrees recline. Close location to the galleys and lavatory are the only disadvantage of the seats of the 9th (that is actually 1st) row as well as for the seats of the 16th row (the last row of the section).

A and K seats of the rows 9, 11, 13 and 15 are a little angled towards the aisle as well as D and G seats of the rows 10, 12, 14 and 16. The seat 9K may be chosen by passenger travelling with a baby because these seat offers space for bassinet.

For passengers who are travelling alone and need some private space will be ideal A and K seats of the rows 10, 12, 14 and 16 because these seats are separated from the aisle by a side table.

Passengers who are travelling with a partner may choose D and G seats of the rows 9, 11, 13 and 15. These seats are perfect for couples.

Behind the exit row 28 recliner seats of premium class are located. These seats are located in 4 rows that have 2-3-2 configuration. These seats are considered premium seats because they have extra legroom, extra seat width and 7 inches recline.

Location of the bulkhead, lavatory and galley in front, lack of floor storage during take-off and landing may cause some discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 17th row. Passengers traveling with infants are often seated on the seats 17DFG because bassinets may be placed on the bulkhead.

Economy class seats are divided into two sections. There are totally 222 standard seats here.

First section of economy class seats contains 12 rows of seats. First 10 rows have 3-3-3 configuration and the last 2 rows of the section contain just 3 seats each. The seats of the 21st row are designated as Preferred seats. An extra fee must be paid to choose these seats. Passengers of these seats will take advantage of extra legroom. However, these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing. As the tray tables are entertainment displays are built-in the armrests making them immovable and thus reducing the width.

For passengers who are travelling with infants the seats 21DFG provide possibility to attach bassinet to the bulkhead.

The noise from the galleys and lavatories will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 30ABC, 30DFG, 30H, 31H and 32H.

Limited recline and reduced personal space when the seats in front are reclined are other disadvantages of the seats 30ABC, 30DFG and 32HJK.

Behind exit row second section of economy class seats with 15 rows is located. Passengers of the seats 45ABC, 45HJK and 46DFG will take advantage of extra legroom. Among disadvantages of these seats: reduced seat width because tray tables and entertainment monitors are located in the armrests, no floor storage during take-off and landing and location of the lavatory and galley area in front. Protrusion of the exit door inside reduced extra legroom of the seats 45A and 45K a little.

To choose the seats 45BC and 45HJ extra charge must be paid because these seats are designated as Preferred Seats.

For passengers of the seats 46DFG travelling with babies a bassinet may be installed on the bulkhead.

The only disadvantage of the seats 58D and 58G is close location to the galleys and lavatories.

When the seats located in front are reclined personal space of passengers of the seats 58ABC, 58HJK and 59DFG is limited. Because of the bulkhead located behind these seats also have limited recline. The noise from the galleys and lavatories located behind is one more disadvantage of these seats. All these disadvantages make these seats bad seats.

First 10 rows of seats offer 36 flat bed seats of the first class (clase premier). These seats have 180 degrees recline. All these seats transform into fully-fledged beds.

The seats of the first class are located into two sections. First section consists of 8 rows of seats: 7 of them have 1-2-1 configuration and one row contains just 2 seats. The only disadvantage of the seats of the 1st row is close location of the lavatory and galley in front of these seats.

Location of the bar behind may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 7DF, 8A and 8J.

Behind the exit row 2 more rows of first class seats are located. There are totally 6 seats here. The noise from the lavatories and self serve bar will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 9th row.

Economy class seats are divided into two sections. First three rows located behind first class seats are classified by Aeromexico as AM Plus seats to book which an extra fee must be paid. These seats, i.e. the seats of the rows 12-15 offer 4 additional inches of legroom. The seats of the 12th row are considered good seats thanks to extra legroom that these seats offer. However, the width is slightly reduced because the tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable. Also these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing. For passengers with infants these seats offer bassinets.

The main disadvantages of the seats 24DEF, 25ABC and 25GHJ are limited recline and location of the lavatories behind.

Behind the exit row 15 more rows of economy class seats are located.

Passengers of the seats 26ABC and 26GHJ will take advantage of extra space for their legs. These seats are designated by Aeromexico as Preferred seats. An additional fee must be paid to choose these seats. Among disadvantages: reduced width and no floor storage during take-off and landing. Protrusion of the exit door is another disadvantage of the seats 26A and 26J.

As there are no seats in front the seats 27DEF these seats offer extra legroom. But location of the galleys in front and reduced width may cause some discomfort to passengers of these seats.

Missing windows make the seats 37A and 37J bad seats.

Proximity of the lavatories is the only disadvantage of the seats 39D and 39F.

The seats 39ABC, 39J and 40DEF are less reclining than standard and are located close to the lavatories and galleys that is why these seats are considered bad seats.

First 8 rows on this airplane offer 30 open suites of business class. All these seats are transformed into a fully bed.

Close location to the galleys and lavatory will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 1A and 1K.

Proximity of the galleys may also represent a problem to passengers of the seats of the 8th row.

Behind the exit row 21 seats of premium economy class are located. These seats have 130 degrees recline. Passengers of the seats of the 10th row will take advantage of extra space for their legs. For passengers travelling with babies these seats offer bassinets. These seats have some disadvantages: proximity of the lavatories, reduced width and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing.

Economy class offers 225 standard seats that are located in two sections.

First section contains 11 rows of seats: 10 of them have 3-3-3 configuration and the last row of the section contains just 6 seats. Extra legroom provided by the seats of the 15th row makes these seats good seats. Passengers travelling with infants are often seated in this row. However, these seats are a little narrower than standard and have no floor storage during take-off and landing.

Limited recline and location of the lavatories behind are the main disadvantages of the seats 24DEG, 25BC and 25HJK.

Behind the exit row second section of economy class seats is located. There are 15 rows o seats here.

Passengers of the seats of the 30th row will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom. As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced a little. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats. The seats 30BC and 30HJ are considered the best seats. Protrusion of the exit doors restricts extra legroom of the seats 30A and 30K a little. Location of the lavatory in front will cause inconvenience to passengers of the seats 30DEG. For passengers with babies these seats offer bassinets.

The noise from the lavatory and galley located behind the seats of the 43rd row (except the seat 43E) and the seats of the 44th row may be bothersome. Limited recline makes the seats 43ABC, 43HJK and 44DEG bad seats.

These characteristics have been reached by means of elongated by 6.5 meters body. Flying range has been also increased (by 500 kilometers). Commercial use of Boeing 787-9 began in 2014.

The cabin width is 5.5 meters that is bigger than in Airbus A330 and A340. The lightning is made on the base of light-emitting diodes that change color depending on the flight stage.

The windows size is 65% bigger than in other airplanes. Instead of common window blind they are equipped with electro chromic dimming system. Luggage bins are by 30% bigger.

First 8 rows of seats offer 30 flat bed seats of business class that have 180 degrees recline. All these seats are standard. Only the seats 1A, 1K and 2DG have such a disadvantage as close location of the galleys and lavatory in front the noise from which may be bothersome.

Behind the exit row 48 seats of economy comfort type are located. Passengers of the seats of the 10th row will take advantage of extra space for their legs. However, proximity of the galleys and lack of floor storage during takeoff and landing may cause discomfort.

Economy class may 216 passengers. The seats of the economy class are located in two sections. First section consists of 10 rows of seats. Most of these seats have 3-3-3 configuration. Location of the lavatories behind is the main disadvantage of the seats of the 25th row.

Second section of economy class seats consists of 15 rows.

Thanks to the exit row located in front the seats 30ABC and 30HJK offer extra legroom. Among disadvantages: location of the lavatories in front, reduced width and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing.

Passengers also tend to congregate in the area of the seats 30DEG while waiting to use lavatories and thus causing discomfort to passengers of these seats. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats.

The only disadvantage of the seats 41A and 41K are missing windows.

Proximity of the lavatories will cause discomfort to passengers of the seats 43ABC, 43D, 43G, 43HJK and 44DEF. Limited or no recline makes the seats 43ABC, 43HJK and 44DEF bad seats.

“KLM” operates 13 planes Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. On December 15th 2009 took place first flight of Boeing 787 that lasted about 3 hours. After this flight Boeing company has declared nine months schedule of flying tests.

In flying tests participated six Boeing 787 airplanes: 4 with Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines and 2 with GE Genx-1B64 engines.

On March 2007 has successfully finished wing load test. During 3 seconds the wing of ready airplane has suffered load that exceeded by 150% standard load during the flight.

On April 23rd 2010 Boeing has ferried the newest Boeing 787 (with registration number ZA003) to special parking shelter Eglin Air Force Base (Florida state) for preparations to temperature tests (from -43 to +46).

In June 2010 during the tests some problems with horizontal stabilizer have been detected. These problems were solved very fast. At the same time Boeing 787 airplane has gone through lightning strike tests that have shown that this natural phenomena is fully safe for this airplane.
