Thus Boeing started to engineer elongated version of MAX line that had to replace Boeing 737-900 and Boeing 737-900ER of previous Next Generation.

On March 7th 2017 in front of manufacturing shelter in Renton, Washington state was demonstrated first assembled prototype of Boeing 737 Max 9.
