Long-haul airplane Airbus A340-500 is modern version of earlier model A340-300 with increased dimensions, additional fuel tanks and more powerful engines. The airplane is intended for flights on intercontinental airlines and for the moment of its’ creation it had the biggest flying range among passenger airplanes.
Commercial use of Airbus A340-500 began in 2003. Till the end of serial production in 2011 34 airplanes have been constructed. There is also elongated version of the airplane Airbus A340-600.
