Seat map Boeing 747-400 KLM. Best seats in the plane
KLM operates 2 versions of Boeing 747-400 airplane.
First cabin version of the Boeing 747-400 (744) Combi New Business
First version of Boeing 747-400 operated by KLM is used both for passengers and cargo transportation.
The lower deck offers seats of three classes.
First 4 rows contain 15 flat bed seats of world business class. These seats have 180 degrees recline. The best seats are considered the seats of the 1st row because these seats offer more privacy as well as the seat 4A.
The main disadvantage of the seat 4E are passengers passing by that may cause discomfort.
Behind the exit row 36 seats of economy comfort class are located. KLM charges an extra fee to reserve these seats.
Passengers of the seats 9BC will take advantage of extra legroom. The legroom of the seat 9A is restricted by exit door. Among disadvantages of the seats 9ABC are: congregation of passengers in the area of these seats in order to visit lavatories, reduced width of the seats, lack of floor storage during take-off and landing. Also it can get during the flight cold by the exits. These disadvantages (except the last one) are also the same for the seats 11DE plus limited legroom makes these seats bad seats.
The main disadvantages of the seats of the 17th row are: location of the galleys and lavatories nearby and limited recline.
Economy class may accommodate 197 passengers. The seats of the economy class are divided into two sections. First section contains 13 rows of seats.
The legroom of the seats 21A and 21K is restricted by the exit doors that protrude inside the cabin. Also, as the tray tables are built-in the armrests making them immovable, these seats are narrower than standard. Passengers of these seats can get cold during the flight by the exits. Other passengers tend to gather in the area of these seats while waiting to use lavatories and thus causing discomfort to passengers of these seats. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats. As to the other seats of this row, i.e. the seats 21BC and 21HJ they are designated by KLM as Economy Comfort seats to reserve which an extra charge should be paid. These seats have the same disadvantages: reduced width, no floor storage during take-off and landing and also it can get cold during the flight by the exits.
C and H seats of the rows 24-28 are one inch narrower, have less space for passengers legs and are located close to the galleys the noise from which may cause discomfort.
For passengers traveling with babies the seats 28DEFG offer bassinets. Position of the bulkhead limits the legroom of these seats. Among other disadvantages: location of the galley in front, reduced width of the seats and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing.
The only disadvantage of A and K seats of the rows 29-31 are misaligned windows.
Location of the lavatories behind and limited recline are the main disadvantages of the seats of the 33rd row.
The second section of economy class seats consists of 11 rows of seats. The seats 35A and 35K are considered bad seats due to the following reasons: missing windows, restriction of the legroom by the exit doors protrusion, reduced width, no floor storage during take-off and landing and close location of the lavatories. The seats 35BC and 35HJ have the same disadvantages but passengers of these seats will be able to take advantage of extra legroom. These seats are designated as Economy Comfort seats to book which an extra charge should be paid.
Due to position of the bulkhead the seats 37DEFG have limited space for passengers’ legs. As the tray tables are in the armrests the width of these seats is reduced a little. These seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing. Passengers traveling with babies are often seated here as these seats have bassinets.
The noise from the galleys located behind and limited recline make the seats 44DEFG, 44HJK and 45ABC bad seats.
The remaining space of the lower deck, i.e. the tail part of the airplane is taken by cargo compartment.
The upper deck contains 20 seats of world business class.
All these seats are standard. Only close location of the seat 71J to the lavatory and of the seat 79J to the stairs and galley may cause inconvenience to passengers of these seats.
Second cabin version of the Boeing 747-400 (744) New Business
This version of Boeing 747-400 may accommodate 408 passengers in three classes: world business, economy comfort and economy.
The lower deck contains 15 flat bed seats that have 180 degrees recline. The seats of the 1st row provide more privacy to passengers. These seats are considered good seats as well as the seat 4A that has additional personal space and is more private than other business class seats.
Location of the seat 4E in the middle of the cabin is a disadvantage because of the flow of passengers’ traffic. Lavatory and galleys located behind may cause discomfort as well.
Economy comfort seats may accommodate 36 passengers.
As the seats 9ABC are located behind the exit row passengers of these seats may get cold by the exits during the flight. Other passengers tend to gather in the area of these seats while waiting to use lavatories thus causing discomfort to passengers. Tray tables of these seats are in the armrests making them immovable and reducing the width of these seats a little. Lack of floor storage during take-off and landing is another disadvantage of these seats. Passengers of the seats 9BC will feel comfortable thanks to extra legroom. The extra legroom of the seat 9Ais restricted by exit door that protrudes inside.
Close location of the lavatory, reduced with of the seats and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing are the main disadvantages of the seats 11D and 11E. The seat 11E is considered bad set due to limited legroom caused by the cabinet placed in front of this seat.
The main disadvantages of the seats of the 17th row are: limited recline and close location of the lavatory and galleys. Extra space between the wall and the seat 17E offers additional space for storage.
337 standard seats of the economy class are located in three sections.
The noise from the galleys and lavatories located nearby, reduced width and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing are the main disadvantages of the seats of the 21st row. Protrusion of the exit row limits the legroom of the seats 21A and 21K. The other seats of the 21st row, i.e. the seats 21BC and 21HJ are designated as preferred seats to reserve which an extra charge should be paid. Passengers of these seats will take advantage of extra space for their legs.
The only disadvantage of C and H seats of the rows 24-28 is proximity of the galleys.
Due to position of the bulkhead the seats 28DEFG have limited legroom. Among other disadvantages: these seats are narrower than standard and have no floor storage during take-off and landing.
A and K seats of the rows 29-31 have misaligned windows.
Lavatories located behind and limited recline may cause discomfort to passengers of the seats of the 33rd row.
The second section of economy class seats consists of 11 rows. Passengers of the seats of the 35th row can get cold during the flight by the exits. These seats are a little narrower than standard because the tray tables are in the armrests making them immovable. Also these seats have no floor storage during take-off and landing. Restricted legroom and missing windows make the seats 35A and 35K bad seats. KLM designates the seats 35BC and 35HJ as preferred seats to book which an extra fee should be paid. Due to the exit row located in front passengers of these seats will take advantage of extra legroom. Location of the lavatories may be bothersome for passengers of these seats as well as for passengers of the seats 36BC and 36HK.
Passengers travelling with infants are often seated on the seats 37DEFG. Due to position of the bulkhead the legroom of these seats is restricted. Location of the lavatory in front may represent problem as well.
The seats 44DEFG, 44HJK and 45ABC are less reclining than standard. The noise from the galley located behind is another disadvantage of these seats.
The third section of economy class seats is also located behind the exit row. That is why the seats of the 51st row offer extra legroom. However, these legroom in case of the seats 51A and 51K is restricted by protrusion of the exit doors inside. Among other disadvantages of these seats: proximity of the galleys, reduced width and lack of floor storage during take-off and landing. The seats 51BC and 51HJ are designated by KLM as preferred seats.
Because of the position of the bulkhead the seats 56DEFG have limited space for passengers’ legs. Also, these seats are narrower than standard, are located close to the galley and have no floor storage during take-off and landing.
Due to curvature of the tail the seats 62A and 62K may feel cramped a little.
For passengers travelling with a partner will be ideal BC and HJseats of the rows 63-66. B and J seats of these rows have additional storage space at windows side but at the same time it may be bothersome when passenger wants to lean the head against the wall.
Passengers tend to congregate in the area of the seats 66BC, 66HJ, 67D, 67G and 68DEFG while waiting to use lavatories and causing discomfort to passengers of these seats. Limited recline makes the seats 66BC, 66HJ and 68DEFG bad seats.
The upper deck may accommodate 20 passengers of business class. These seats are divided into 2 section per 10 in each.
The only disadvantage of the seat 77J is location of the lavatory in front.
In the second section only passengers of the seat 79J may feel discomfort because of proximity of the stairs and galley.
