European biometric The Entry/Exit System that will come into force at the end of 2023 it is hi-tech novelty of the nearest future but forecasts about how travels will look like in 50 years are most likely materials for sci-fi movies.

Low-cost airline company EasyJet asked a group of experts – scientists, futurologist and business-analysts – to forecast how travels will look like in 2070.

Research results published in the report: “2070: The Future Travel Report” include forecasts about selection and booking of vacation, airports and also accommodation.

From future travels we can expect passports with “cardiologic signature” and 3D-printed wardrobes.

How air flights will look like in the future?

Experts forecast that travels of the future will be much more comfortable and fast with comfortable transport connection with the airports.

“85% of the travelers in many countries will reach destination point on public transport with electric drive, including autonomous cars”, – futurologist, CEO of Global Change Ltd. Company Patrick Dickson says.

You can even get to the airport on e-VTOL – electric air taxi of vertical take-off and landing that will transport you from home to the airport. “At least 250 companies already engineer these transport means for short flights”, – Dickson says.

Registration and safety in the airport will become more and more “smart” and free of queues. When you enter building recognition software identifies you and compares with the booked flight.

As to the luggage, it is possible that it will not be necessary. “Instead of the clothes on vacation you will only need your measurements”, – professor of the Cranfield University Gram Breitveit promises.

When you reach destination point there will be “wardrobe service” that will print you clothes on 3D printer.

How the airplanes will look like?

Comfort and personalization will be specific for the airplanes of the future. “Biomimetical design – copying the efficiency found in the nature, – will make revolution in the seats and comfort generally”, – futurologist Melissa Sterry says.

“Innovations in materials science will allow to create easier and at the same time durable materials that provide individual comfort at simultaneous safety support”, – expert on future is convinced.

Bombardier is getting ready to increase deliveries for mor than 12% in 2023 till expected 136 airplanes and forecasts income increase for more than 10% till 7.6 billion USD, announced company’s management publishing results for 2022. During conversation with analysts President and Chief Executive Officer Eric Martel said that “company is working in winning situation that allows us to remain predictable” and added that 2023 seams to be very good for new achievements.

Martel said that production goals take account of potential risks related to supply chain and potential recession but he also marked that underrun in amount of 14.8 billion USD that has increased by 2.6 billion USD in 2022 is very solid. “Now, when we see that the market is becoming stable we are not going to inflate our rates, – Executive Officer marked. – We are going to adhere plan and guarantee that our production will not be subject to risk”.

He added that supply chain becomes better and better and though it still requires increased attention situation becomes more controlled. Martel said that the year started with stability and some additional business growth in Asia. Company plans to deliver 20 airplanes in the first quarter.

As to 2022 company confirmed own preliminary results published in January according to which deliveries reached 123 business-jets but income – 6.9 billion USD. In 2022 were delivered by three airplanes more than in 2021 and income increased by 14%. Adjusted EBITDA jumped till 930 million USD that is by 45% more.

Jump of the incomes became result of combination of airplanes’ deliveries that had tendency to higher level of product portfolio including 70 Global, 50 Challenger and three Learjet 75 in 2022 as compared to 66 Global, 44 Challenger and 10 Learjet one year earlier. Also stimulating results became 22% growth of the sales of aftersales service to 1.5 billion USD. Martel named results “strong positive culmination of the strong year”.

It is important to mark that Bombardier continued to annul debt, covering 1.1 billion USD more that means reduction by 15% and bringing total number to 40% from December 2020. Annual saving only at the expense of the debt reduction last year makes 80 million USD according to Bombardier estimations.

City Airlines may replace existing short-haul air carrier CityLine because of the trade unions.

German aviation group of companies Lufthansa Group is getting ready to launch new project: airline company City Airlines will make flights on European routes from Munich hub.

Airline company is urged to widen European route network using fleet of Airbus airplanes and working in “close connection” with other structures of Lufthansa Group, including regional division CityLine. “We want to offer our guests exclusive experience of air travels in Lufthansa style, – the Lufthansa Group commented, – we combine the quality of Lufthansa and the experience of Lufthansa CityLine with the dynamism of a new young company.”

It is informed that new air carrier will make every day flights in the biggest European cities and some “remoted regions” from Munich airport that is second biggest Lufthansa hub after Frankfurt am Main, – in such a way providing connections for Lufthansa flights.

New division will operate solely Airbus airplanes on short-haul and medium-haul routes. The Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr last year has mentioned that the Group intends to make Air Operator Certificate for “the second CityLine” – airline company with similar fleet and crews that worked in liquidated Germanwings before (stopped flights in April 2022).

Spohr also explained that in accordance with the terms of the agreement with trade unions, from 2023 CityLine will not be able to operate airplanes with capacity more than 75 seats and that new airline company is alternative solution of this question.

The biggest and most expensive airplanes

Till 2022 the biggest and most expensive airplanes remained Airbus model A380 for $445.6 million and Boeing – 747-8 for $418.4 million. But now these airplanes are already withdrawn from production. In such a way for today the most expensive Airbus airplane became model A350-1000 for $366.5 million and Boeing airplane – 777-300ER for $375.5 million.

Both airplanes have common that they may transport 400 passengers on long distances between continents.

Real prices

Though catalogue prices are always shown in official messages of the airplanes’ delivery agreements, they may be far from real prices.

Even Airbus admitted this. Chief Commercial Officer of the European manufacturer Christian Scherer claimed in 2019 that “catalogue prices are relatively meaningless”. That is why Airbus from 2019 stopped showing official price of their airplanes but recent catalogue prices can be seen from the message dated with the year 2018.

But how is actual cost formed? Airline companies always get big discounts for big orders. Also, final price of the airplane depends on the configuration – airplane with maximum simple cabin ordered in quantity of 100 units will cost less than model with entertaining system and sky-fi ordered in quantity of one unit.

Remark: Boeing price are shown in accordance with publication on official web-site of the manufacturer as to March 6th 2023. Airbus prices are shown in accordance with official notice of the manufacturer as to the year 2018. Airbus hasn’t made further public updates of the catalogue prices.

How much new passenger airplanes of the biggest aviation companies in the world Airbus and Boeing cost can be found out official prices. Both manufacturers have published these prices that are also named catalogue. Namely catalogue prices are mentioned in information messages when one or another airline company places order for new airplanes.

Below you will find official prices from manufacturers for the models that are in production at present moment. From the list are excluded models that are not produced anymore or are in the process of certification.

The cheapest airplanes

The cheapest Airbus airplane among the models in production is regional 100-seat A220-100 that costs 81 million USD. It is interesting that this airplane was engineered not by Airbus. The airplane was engineered thanks to the work of Canadian engineers from Bombardier company. But due to financial difficulties company sold its production division to European Airbus.

The cheapest airplane in Boeing company is Boeing 737 MAX 8 that may transport 189 passengers. It costs 121.6 million USD that is comparable to annual budget of small town in Europe.

Cheaper and smaller model Boeing 737 MAX 7 for $99.7 million is still under certification. As of yet Boeing hasn’t delivered any airplane of this type to the airline companies.

Most popular airplanes

The most popular Airbus airplane is model A320neo for $110.6 million. This is version of bestseller A320 with renewed engine that may transport 186 passengers. In Boeing the best sold model is Boeing 737 MAX 8 that at the same time is the cheapest among the airplanes constructed by American manufacturer.

Also, Embraer offered to stimulate passengers’ brain with magnetic field and ultrasound.

Many people fairly consider the flights quite bad idea that is why airline companies are constantly seeking for the methods how to reduce stress from the flights. And Brazilian aerospace company Embraer offered extremely original idea – therapy with the kelp of transcranial brain stimulation that in accordance with the idea should make passengers happier during the flight.

Patent application for “the system of brain stimulation to provide good feeling” was filed back in 2016 but it was approved only in 2022.

The idea is to influence cortex of passengers’ cerebrum with the help of transcranial stimulation. The system itself includes digital camera that controls passengers’ facial expressions, algorithms for analysis and system of noninvasive transcranial stimulation with the help of low direct current, magnetic field and ultrasound.

All these, according to developers’ opinion will allow to reduce stress level during long flights and will allow passengers feel themselves happier.

Let’s mark that transcranial magnetic and electric stimulation is used for long time to treat depression, some mental illness and other problems. However, the fact of patent registration doesn’t mean that system will be created and used during the flights.
